I hope that everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day yesterday. In my opinion, it is a nice reminder to do something special for the people that we love. My husband is good about doing things throughout the year that make me feel loved. They are not always “romantic” actions, or at least not the kind of romantic that Hallmark and the jewelry companies would lead you to believe is necessary. He always makes sure that I eat well and shovels all of the snow. He cooks, cleans and does laundry. What else could I ask for?
Douglas is great at performing acts of service, but he went overboard for Valentine’s Day yesterday. First, there was a package for me in the bathroom when I first woke up. It was a piece of lingerie that will not be shown here in the interest of keeping this blog PG. On the coffee table in the living room, I found a bouquet of tulips, my favorite flower, and a card from Crème.
On the dining room table was another bouquet of tulips and a card from Kahlua.
In the car I found a card from Douglas.
In my office there was a bouquet of red roses.
In my classroom, I found another card.
I had a card made for him several moths ago by Shutterfly. I left it in his office.
When I got home, I cleaned the living room and bedroom so that things looked nice for him. I try to keep the bedroom a refuge of peace from the maddening world. We do not have a television in the bedroom. I think that it is important to have a room designed only for sleeping and experiencing love.
Yesterday, I tried to emphasize the sexual side of that love in the bedroom. Can I talk about this now that I am married, even though my mother reads this blog? I will not get explicit; I promise! I lit the candles in the candelabra hanging by the bed and took a three of the tulips from the bouquet in the living room to display on the dresser. Flowers add such beauty to a room. I like how these ones look like they are kissing.
I really like the light that the candles give off. We should use candles more often.
We had a relaxing evening of talking and loving, It was the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day. Of course, after I fell asleep, Douglas went for a run with a friend and got sprayed by a skunk! Is it not ironic that he gave me a Pepe Le Pew card?
