Animals and Bear Spray

Update: This blog has moved! You can check out this post here.

OK. One last post about our trip before we get back to work. It is hard for me to believe that all of our travels and warm-weather fun are over and it is time to get back to work. It has been a near-perfect summer, so we cannot complain. The trip to Montana and Yellowstone National Park was the culmination. I loved the scenery and activities, but honestly I was probably most excited about the wildlife we saw.

Hello Yellowstone!

Update: This blog has moved! You can check out this post here.

On Monday, I promised to write more about Yellowstone National Park. There is no way to properly convey the vastness and other-worldliness of this enchanted place. Whole books have been written about it that still do not capture it all. Faced with the impossibility of covering everything, I will instead tell about our experience in the park in hopes that it will convince you to visit yourself. Yellowstone really should be on everyone’s bucket list.

Montana On My Mind

Update: This blog has moved! You can check out this post here.

Douglas and I spent the last eight days in Montana. Well, that is not exactly true. I spent the last eight days in Montana and Douglas was supposed to. He abandoned me early to compete in the Olympic Distance Triathlon National Championship in Milwaukee, WI. Despite the fact that he was not there the entire time, I still enjoyed the trip immensely.

Someone asked me recently if anyone has ever visited my house twice and found it exactly the same. The answer to that question would be no. Even Douglas rarely comes home to find things the same every day. I like change.

You might remember that I completely rearranged the second bedroom last fall and took it from looking like this…

Banishing the Basement Blues

Update: This blog has moved! You can check out this post here.

For the past year and a half, going into my basement has depressed me. I dream of a day that I can relax down there, and I hope that it is coming soon. Progress has been made! Things are starting to look better in the basement. It is by no means finished, but I can now spend time down there without feeling the urge to rip out my hair. I may no longer be eligible for the show “Hoarders.” This is a good start.

The Lucky Horseshoe and Other Items From Costa Rica

Update: This blog has moved! You can check out this post here.

We just spent four nights in a row at the Cape of Dreams. Woo Hoo! That has not happened since June. In case you missed the last several posts, Douglas and I have been going to quite a few races this summer. He goes to compete, and I go to cheer. You can read about them here. It has been nice to relax, enjoy the comforts of my own bed and not live out of a suitcase for a while. I was also excited to finish a few projects. We are back in business, people! We have a lot we would like to do before our next trip.

If you read my post on Costa Rica, you know that besides traveling to competitions with Douglas, I was fortunate enough to leave the country this summer. When I travel abroad, I keep a lookout for small items that I can bring back with me. Sometimes, I go slightly overboard, like when I bought six large baskets in Senegal, but usually I show restraint. The best is when I find something that does not cost any money. That rarely happens, but I got lucky in Costa Rica. Not  that kind of lucky! Get your heads out of the gutter.

Why We Have Not Been Doing Projects or Proof That My Husband Is INSANE!

Update: This blog has moved! You can check out this post here.

Those of you who know my husband understand that he is crazy; those of you who do not know him are probably shaking your heads that I would title my post this way. I have a feeling that you will understand by the end.

You see, my husband is a triathlete. A triathlete is traditionally a person that competes in triathlons, races composed of swimming, biking and running. However, I think that Douglas intends it to mean that he will “tri” any kind of competition, the harder the better. This weekend I saw a t-shirt that read, “Insanity is what the undisciplined call dedication.” It is a thin line, in my opinion.

In total, he has done seven Ironman triathlons. A full Ironman competition starts with a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride and finishes with a marathon, which is a 26.2 mile run. However, those are not enough of a challenge for him any more, so in April he did a 100K race. One hundred kilometers are sixty two miles. I refuse to run sixty two feet, so it is beyond me that anyone would choose to do something like that. Remember what I said about crazy?

How to Socialize a Cat

Update: This blog has moved! You can check out this post here.

Yesterday, July 25 was my birthday. It was a nice day. Last year, around the same time, I celebrated my birthday as well. It was my very first birthday as a married lady, and my husband went all out and completely spoiled me in a way that made me ask yesterday, “Hey, wait a minute. Today is my birthday. Where are all my amazing gifts?” It is not that I am spoiled… ok, maybe a little… the thing is that last year I received two of the most amazing gifts I have ever been given.

Costa Rica Part II

Update: This blog has moved! You can check out this post here.

If you have read any of my last five posts, you know that I just returned from Costa Rica. This trip was not purely touristic, as I took a group of students there. We had several goals for the trip that I outlined in this post. Here is our itinerary.

My brain is slightly fried right now, but I am going to attempt a few coherent thoughts anyway. I arrived home from Costa Rica at 2:00 am and still have not recuperated from our busy trip.
